  1. The first step if removing the door completely is to disconnect the battery, remove the interior door panel, and then the complete door wiring harness. If replaceing the door hinge pins and bushings only, the repair can be performed by supporting and sliding the door rearward only very slightly.
  2. If available, apply cloth backed tape to the door and body pillar for protection. Before removing hinge spring from door, cover the spring with a towel to prevent the spring from flying and possibly causing personal injury.
  3. Using the door hinge spring compressor, compress door hinge spring and remove. To remove door hinge pin clips, spread clips and move them above the recess on the pin; when pin is removed, clip will ride on pin and fall free.
  4. Using a soft-headed hammer and a pair of locking pliers, remove the lower hinge pin from the door hinge; then, temporarily install a bolt (in the lower pin holes) to hold the door in place until the upper hinge pin is removed.
  5. Remove the upper door hinge pin and support the door, then remove the bolt from the lower hinge pin holes and remove the door from the truck. If the door hinge pins and bushing only are being replaced, this is the step where the door can be supported and moved rearward only slightly.
  6. To begin reinstallation of the door, position the door on the hinges and insert a bolt through the lower hinge pin holes. Install a new upper hinge pin and hinge pin clip. Remove the bolt from the lower hinge pin holes and install a new lower hinge pin and hinge pin clip into the lower hinge pin holes.
  7. Carefully compress the door hinge spring using the door spring compressor tool and install it into the door hinge using the door hinge spring compressor tool as pictured. If door was removed completely, re-engage the wiring and install the trim panel or pieces, then connect the negative battery cable.
